The Michael Martin Murphey concert is being
rescheduled due to unexpected family medical considerations.
More information regarding the new concert date will be coming soon.
One of America’s favorite cowboy performers,
Michael Martin
Murphey, comes to back to town for a solo
performance at the UPTOWN MARBLE THEATER this Saturday evening,
February 25, at 8 pm . "I love performing at this place.
It's really special", says Murphey. From his early 70’s Cosmic
Cowboy days to his present focus on the western cowboy, this seasoned
singer-songwriter has always created a powerful stage presence with
wonderful songs, fine musicianship, and a strong voice.
Murphey was born in Dallas, TX, and
quickly took to playing the ukulele. He had a special love for cowboy
stories and songs and also read avidly as a boy -- especially the
work of Mark Twain and William Faulkner -- and was writing poetry
before he was in his teens. By the 60’s,
Michael was living in Los Angeles and writing for Colgems
Records. One of his first published songs “What Am I Doing
Hangin’ Round” was a hit for his friend Mike Nesmith and the Monkees
during their heydays, and Kenny Rodgers did an album of
Murphey songs know as “The Ballad of Calico”.
Back in Texas, in the Austin area, during the early '70s, he resumed
his singer/songwriter career and fell in with
Jerry Jeff Walker,
Willie Nelson, and
B.W. Stevenson and the beginning of the Cosmic Cowboy days.
He also put together a new band that specialized in country-rock and
folk-rock. Other well received songs followed with “Geronimo’s
Cadillac”, “Cherokee Fiddle”, “Carolina in the Pines”, and the smash
hit “Wildfire”.
In 1990, Murphey
returned to one of the first loves of his life, cowboy music.
He cut an album,
Cowboy Songs, made up of traditional and well-known popular songs
from the genre, including "The Yellow Rose of Texas" and "Tumbling
Tumbleweeds." That record uncovered a niche waiting to be filled,
selling several times more than any of
Murphey's other Warner Bros. releases.
That success, in turn, led the label to establish its Warner Western
imprint, which, in addition to
Murphey (who also produces a lot of the
work), has also recorded the harmony group the Sons of the San
Joachin, veteran singing cowboy
Herb Jeffries, and poet
Waddie Mitchell.

Johnny Rogers is the star of the #1 Branson Show, A Musical Tribute to Buddy Holly. Johnny will shake, rattle, and roll back to the glory days of rock and roll with the music of Chuck Berry, Bill Haley & The Comets, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers, as well as country legends, such as Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Conway Twitty, Hank Williams, and many others. "Johnny is the best showman I've ever performed with," says Tommy Allsup, former guitarist for Buddy Holly." This salute to the music of the 50's and 60's is a must see to experience!

A musical force equipped with the soulful vocals of Janis and the
guitar slinging skills of Stevie Ray, Carolyn Wonderland reaches
into the depths of the Texas blues tradition with the wit of a
poet. She hits the stage with unmatched presence, a true legend
in her time.
“She'd grown up the child of a singer in a band and began playing
her mother's vintage Martin guitar when other girls were dressing
dolls. She'd gone from being the teenage toast of her hometown
Houston to sleeping in her van in Austin amid heaps of critical
acclaim for fine recordings Alcohol & Salvation, Bloodless
Revolution, and most recently, Miss Understood.
Along with the guitar and the multitude of other instruments she
learned to play – trumpet, accordion, piano, mandolin, lap steel –
Wonderland's ability to whistle remains most unusual. Whistling is
a uniquely vocal art seldom invoked in modern music, yet it's among
the most spectacular talents the human voice possesses.
"Carolyn Wonderland's live shows are just outright phenomenal. Top
notch, five-stars, off the meter - whatever the clich., Carolyn and
her band meet it...Her voice can be as beautiful as an angel and as
powerful as a Class 5 hurricane all within the drop of a hat...One
thing's for certain, some forces - even those barely five feet tall
- cannot be contained." - Dante Dominick, Rockzillaworld Magazine
